Year in review: 2012 Goals

At the beginning of 2012, I made some resolutions for the year. I had big plans to cross things off off of my 100 list! Here’s a copy of the original list:

  1. Play an instrument.
  2. Learn to sew.
  3. Learn to ride the city bus.
  4. Make pasta from scratch.
  5. Watch all of the movies in the AFI 100 Movies list.
  6. Meditation.
Um. So I did one of those. Honestly, I think the key is not to have such specific goals! I did end up accomplishing quite a few things from my list:
  1. See Stevie Wonder in concert
  2. See The Shins in concert
  3. Go to a topless beach, topless
  4. Go sailing
  5. Learn to sew
  6. Progress towards “visit 50 countries” — Turkey, Greece, Puerto Rico
  7. Learn to do screenprinting
  8. Create something using Letterpress
  9. Make pasta from scratch
For 2013 I’m going to try out not having any goals. Let the year take me where it may! I am inspired by an article by Jim Collins, “Best New Year’s Resolution? A’Stop Doing’ List.” So maybe I will have one resolution. I’ll say no more. Otherwise, I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that 2013 brings with it some more fun times, accomplishments and stories.

KAW

Have you ever had an identity crisis? Forgotten your initials? Forgotten your name? Thankfully, that will not be happening to me. Mart Girl and her sister have introduced me to the world of monogramming, their apparent obsession. If, when asked my name, I forget, I can simply look down at my bag or shirt and get a nice prompt. So clever.

I Couldn’t Make This Up

A friend’s wife used to work at the Ohio BMV reviewing requests for personalized license plates for appropriateness. She has since moved on in her career and whoever has  the job now is slipping. Evidence: VAGLUVR.

Groomsman

Yesterday my brother asked me and my sisters to stand by his side at his wedding. We’re to be groomsmen! I’m incredibly happy to get to take part in his day. The sweetest part of the ask? When he said, “I knew when I was in Kate’s wedding on her side that I wanted to do the same thing.”

I’m looking forward to next Spring when I get to officially welcome Songbird to the family and have fun on the boy’s side of the wedding.
