The Product of Creative Frustration

Every Rose Has a Thorn, Thank Goodness

Friday mornings are the best for the following reasons

  • I am typing this as I listen to Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough by Michael Jackson. I am NOT wearing headphones. Ah to be able to listen to open air music (this is like eating free range chicken – a glorious experience)
  • Remembering that I know every word to Poison’s Every Rose Has a Thorn on the way to work this morning.
  • Finding out this morning in an openly star struck moment that I will get to interview a Harlem Globetrotter IN PERSON. (Which one? WHO CARES! Did you not see the words “IN PERSON”???)
  • Waking up at 4:30 to biscuits on my collar bone, but visible bruises now.

Make Me Happy This Morning

First, play Faith by George Michael on the radio and you KNOW I am going to have a good day.

Then have a radio DJ, normally the bane of my mornings, tell the following joke:

“What do Michael Jackson, Robert Blake and O.J. Simpson have in common?”
They all have more courtroom experience than Harriet Meiers.

Weezer

So Weezer has a well-established logo, or representation of the W from their name, as seen in several examples below:
Weezer fans, during concerts, are often seen holding up their hands to form the W much as this cool little kids is here:

At the Weezer show I went to, many of the fans were too drunk so it looked more like this:

Twinkle

This picture you see that looks like a clear summer night — it’s the scene after your favorite band has just left the stage after a great concert and everyone wants them to come back out. It’s sweet. It’s classic. It’s a rock ‘n’ roll moment.

Now, take all of those little white and yellow balls of lights and make them iridescent blue or green. Kinda weird, huh?

This past weekend I partook is come Kaiser Cheifs – Weezer – Foo Fighters delight. After the show the fans urged the band members back out onto stage not with their lighters but with their open cell phones.

I guess it’s a healthy change in the times, but ironic since during the whole show I smelled the POT in full force.

Remember

Remember when you would never consider going out without pre-gaming it first? Remember when pre-gaming it meant splitting s case of beer with a friend? Remember when you could drink a whole case if beer by yourself? And still remember the evening? And wake up feeling fine? And start partying at about 11 a.m. the next day?

This is an email my brother Jake sent to the family, parents included. As a point of reference, he is twenty. I could have deleted the first paragraph, where he is basically bragging about the 12,000 mp3s he has on his computer, which by the way he didn’t even download himself but which were given to him by my BF. But it’s funny to me. The second paragraph, though, might make you feel old.

So people have been giving me shit about how I have way more music on my computer than I could ever listen to. I went ahead and used the Play Count feature to check the songs I’ve listened to at least once. After crunching some numbers, I discovered I’ve listened to 2.7% of my music. The song that’s been played the most? None other than Will Smith’s “Miami,” with 9 plays. Tied for a close 2nd are “Summer of ’69” by Bryan Adams, “Money For Nothing” by Dire Straits and “Bust a Move” by Young MC.

In other news, I know you guys all love to play Power Hour, the game where you take a shot of beer every minute. Or maybe you even like to tackle Century Club, the extended version of the same game. Well now you can make your own Power Hour mixes with iPowerHour. iPowerHour plays the first minute of every song on your playlist. It’s really great and the desktop icon is a mug of beer.

Download iPowerHour here.
