Because of my firm dedication to summer and hot, hot temperatures, I am not a fan of fall. But, even I have to admit that the leaves are beautiful at this time of year. Here are a few I captured at a local city park.
Month: November 2011
Today Wonder Boy and I cleaned out our pantry because it was infested with some disgusting flying insects that had settled in and procreated all over the place. I am pretty much terrified of bugs so this was among my worst nightmares. We took every item out of the room and analyzed it to see if it had been attacked by the bugs or not. After three full trash bags, serious vacuuming and liberal use of bug spray (which was carefully cleaned up afterwards), the room is finally clean again. It will take me a while to get the visions of bugs out of my head.
Fortunately, we have the addition of a beautiful flower to lighten up the morbid feel of the room.
This was a gift from Wonder Boy. Orchids are among my favorite flowers. There is such variety and all of them are stunning. |
And now I need to go shower because my skin is crawling and my head keeps itching as if bugs are all over me.
Here are some of the things I’ve been clicking on this week:
- I stumbled across some directions for making your own canvas portrait. I haven’t tried it but it looks pretty cool.
- Who isn’t a sucker for some regular cute injected into their day? These baby pictures did it for me: tiger and jaguar.
- Looking for a good Christmas gift idea for me? I LOVE this nerdy T-shirt. Women’s extra-large please.
- Although I am nerdy enough to love a good CSS and HTML joke, I am not nerdy enough to want Star Wars wallpaper in my house. I will, however, admit that it is tastefully designed.
- Finally, to leave you with a smile, I present a dancing squirrel. Yep – you read that right!
As of this past Monday Wonder Boy and I have been together for eight years. Wonder Boy came home to a completely inappropriate SomeeCard, the caption of which I will not share, and he got me a beautiful orchid and sweet card. And then he made me the greatest. dinner. ever. For his romantic anniversary dinner, Wonder Boy turned to one of the greatest foods out there: potatoes. And he didn’t screw around – he mashed the potatoes, which is hands down the best way to go.
Then Wonder Boy upped the ante by baking some frozen vegetarian pot pies, which we turned upside-down onto the mashed potatoes (he says this is how he’s always done it).
Now you might be unimpressed and thinking that this meal was easy and, frankly, not that good for me. You are right on both counts. But, mashed potatoes is one of my two favorite foods in the whole wide world. (The other is homemade macaroni and cheese, which Wonder Boy made me on the night he proposed to me.) And a pot pie is the perfect comfort food accompaniment to mashed potatoes.
The boy knows how to romance me.
Because I see no reason why kids should be the only ones dressing up on Halloween, I dressed up our foster kitties. Latke was a smart businesswoman in her striped necktie and Matzah Ball was a slightly sleazier businessman in his Hawaiian-designed necktie.
You might think that small kittens would not enjoy wearing neckties and you would be right. But, when you weigh only 2 (Matzah Ball) or 3 (Latke) pounds, you don’t have much choice in the matter. Plus, Wonder Boy and I placed the kitties on my Eames rocker, which is a whopping 26.5 inches off the ground, which is a staggering height if you are a small kitten.
