Tonight, at the suggestion of Wonder Boy, we watched Twilight.

Now let’s be clear, I did not resist watching the movie. But in watching it, I am breaking the mold. This is historical, ground-breaking stuff, folks! I have just entered the crazy world of movies that have sequels, movies that are parts of series. And I have, so far, survived.

It is an annoying point of pride for me that I have still resisted all pleading, shaming and hardcore convincing to see the Lord of the Rings films, the Star Wars films and more than one Star Trek film.

I can’t say when this period of abstaining began, or even why. I was raised on many a series… Neverending Story, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, a few if the Jaws films (I hate scary movies so they were rules out based on subject matter), Superman. I am sure there are more.

I am fairly certain that the last film I ever saw that could be attributed to being part of a series was The Last Crusade. I chose not to see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. At some point thing should end while they are good. Why screw with a good thing? Michael Jordan when he quit the first time? Awesome. When he quit the second time? Still awesome but with a little sad on the side.

Tonight I fear I have opened pandora’s box. Is this the beginning of me going back and watching all of those films I have so studiously avoided? Is this huge change part of my new year’s resolution? (Don’t get your hopes up Wonder Boy. I’m not caving yet.)

I’m not sure, but I do know that Twilight was based on a book and the books were supposed to be good…
